Golf Club Memberships or Virtual Reality Golf?
Will virtual reality replace good old fashioned golf club memberships? Although some suggest that the educational aspect of VR coupled with the fact that you can practice from the comfort of your home may seem appealing, the technology is still just a novelty. Nothing can beat professional golf lessons in South Florida sun, the open air, smells, and experience of a round on a real, championship golf course.
Have you ever wanted to play a round of golf on the moon? Dell and HTC have partnered to make this happen, and both companies are setting up tents at every PGA tour location to offer a lunar game to spectators. The inflatable tent creates a moon-like atmosphere and attendees are given a headset when they walk in. The idea of hitting golf balls on the moon comes from the Apollo 14 mission when Alan Shepard famously played a very clumsy round of golf on the lunar surface. Admittedly, it is probably difficult to use the correct posture in those suits, and Mr. Shepard had an experience that no golf club membership could compete with.
The advancements in virtual reality are pushing the technology even further into the public domain. The current focus has been to create images that are both stimulated and realistic. There is no way for virtual reality to have an effect on the human body, so playing a round of golf can be visually interesting but doesn’t yet compete with the physical activity that a golfer gets on the green. Bing Crosby Biography Reveals He Had 75 Golf Club Memberships
If you are a golf enthusiast and are looking for an interesting biography or book that details the love of the game, try 18 Holes with Bing: Golf, Life and Lessons from Dad by Bing Crosby’s son Nathaniel. One of the most interesting aspects of the American legend was his absolute love and devotion to the game of golf. It was later discovered that he had 75 golf club memberships and was paying dues on almost all of them.
Championship golf courses in South Florida will say that Bing Crosby forever changed the world of golf. He is responsible for creating the first Pro-Am (professional-amateur) tournament, which is still played today and is known as the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. His tournament structure was copied and is still the standard of almost all golf tournaments in the world. He also created the glass cup trophy styles that are common in almost all golf tournaments, including the Augusta National. However, Crosby did much more than just holding a lot of golf club memberships and creating the glass cup; Crosby lived and breathed the game.
Although famous for his vocal talents, Crosby was a strong golf player. Bing Crosby died in 1977 from a heart attack. He had just finished a game on a professional golf course in Spain, and some of his last words were: “That was a great game of golf”. The book, written by his son, was released on May 3, 2016, and if you consider yourself a big fan of golf, it is a must read.

Goodbye Snow Bird Season, Hello Summer Golf Membership!
The weather is finally starting to warm up, which in Florida means ‘Snow Bird Season’ is almost up! To celebrate the end of tourism in South Florida, Deer Creek is introducing summer golf memberships.
Effective May 1st (until October 31st) the Deer Creek summer golf memberships will be available for Florida residents and for travelers. Resident summer golf memberships allow unlimited golf Monday through Friday and after 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. These resident summer golf memberships are only $395 plus tax.
Non-residents are still eligible for summer golf memberships; however, they can only purchase the unlimited membership – which allows for play anytime Monday through Friday. Unlimited summer golf memberships are $995 plus tax, and there is a junior (17 & under) option available for $275 plus tax.
All summer memberships include:
- $23.58 +tax Cart Fee (May 1-14 & October 16-31)
- $20.00 +tax Cart Fee (May 15 – October 15)
- 10% Off Clubhouse Food
- 10% Off on Regularly Priced Pro Shop Merchandise
- Six-Day Advance Tee Time
- $75 Lockers or Bag Storage, $125 for both
- Handicap Service
